ABSTRACT:
The social, political, religious and ethnic configurations of
feudalism and the growth of towns in the middle ages was seen as being in
conflict to the beginning of the industrial era. The literature of this
particular era tends to incorporate many of the issues involved within the
transition, including a predominant Christian theme and, or, the inclusion of
spirituality and a reference to antiquity. This 7 page paper explores and
compares a few of the literary works that have come out of that era, including
Sidney's Astrophil And Stella, Book I of Spenser's The Faerie Queene, Milton's
Lycidas and Book IX of Paradise Lost, Pope's The Rape Of The Lock and Swift's
Gullivers Travels. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
